Volunteer Africa
Kahama Project: We are building a community center in the mainland town of Kahama. This project is hands-on construction and is hard work. Students will be laying bricks, mixing cement, demolishing old walls, and laying foundation with the help of local contractors. Students will also spend a beautiful day out in a remote village so they experience the trueness of Africa. Our volunteer day at the orphanage is always so fun. To cool off and relax, we have a weekend trip planned to infamous Mwanza, home of Lake Victoria. The sunset boat ride is a favorite among all of us. Kahama offers two dates and many options. It can be done as a solo trip, students can add-on the Egypt cultural immersion trip or it can be extended to include Kahama, Zanzibar and Egypt.
Zanzibar Project: Zanzibar, Tanzania is a beautiful island off of the Indian ocean; a true paradise on earth. In Zanzibar students will be engaged in building makuti roofs for unfinished homes for local families. The project in Zanzibar while not as physically intense as Kahama, the work is still as important. The students learn how to weave the coconut /palm leaves to create the "makuti". Everything is done by hand offering beautiful and unique result to every project we do. You will have the option to trade in the last volunteer week for an island excursion week. During excursion week students will snorkel, swim with dolphins and turtles, visit 3 cenotes, horse-back ride on the beach, do a cooking class, visit other beaches, visit the spice farm and spend a day in infamous Stone Town; home of Freddie Mercury. Zanzibar can be a solo trip or it can be part of an extended trip to both Kahama and Egypt.
Volunteer Asia
Cambodia Project: Spend time in the forest volunteering at an elephant sanctuary. Students will be involved some of these activities while in Cambodia: collecting seeds and planting saplings to support reforestation efforts, care for other rescued animals such as cats, dogs and monkeys and helping injured animals recover. Other volunteer activities include teaching English to young children at the sanctuary and help with farming. This trip is offered as a solo trip, There is a cultural immersion excursion week that can be added where students tour through Cambodia visiting all of the important sites in the capital and Siem Reap. This trip can also be combined with the trip to South Korea, making it 6 weeks total. Students will earn 50 volunteer hours for the 2 weeks of volunteering and 100 hours with the addition of 3 weeks in South Korea.
South Korea Project: Students will volunteer on the beautiful island of Jeju. The focus of this trip is to teach art and English to Korean elementary students enrolled in English courses and an after school program that teaches English through art. We will engage in a beach clean up day as well. Students will earn 50+ volunteer hours for this project. Students can come and volunteer for two weeks, with the option to add-on a cultural immersion week in Seoul; visiting the DMZ, night markets, K-Pop tours and so many other exciting places. It can also be added to an extended trip to include volunteering at an elephant sanctuary in Cambodia plus excursion weeks in both countries.
