Weeks 1-3 Zanzibar

Volunteering in Zanzibar

Eco-Tourism & Humanitarian Work

We will begin our trip in Tanzania.  Zanzibar has become a very popular tourist destination due to its perfect weather and the beautiful beaches on the Indian Ocean.  It's important to start our trip with a comprehensive village tour of Jambiani where students will meet local families and learn about day to day life in Zanzibar.   Students will spend one week working at the turtle sanctuary helping with project improvements, planting crops and caring for the turtles.  The following 2 weeks in coordination with the local city counsel, we will be building roofs for local families in need.  Students will receive 70+ volunteer hours for their project work in Zanzibar.

Zanzibar offers an incredible experience that goes beyond humanitarian projects. It allows you to immerse yourself in a fun and kind culture. Becoming a part of this community is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have!

Island Excursion Week

Island Excursion Week

Students can substitute their last volunteer week for an exciting time of exploring Zanzibar island.

Set right on the Indian Ocean, Zanzibar offers a plethora of opportunities to have fun in the sun. Excursions include, snorkeling, star fish island, visiting the caves, swimming with turtles, horse back riding in the beach, sunset at Kae Beach, a sunset ride on a dhow boat, early morning swim with the dolphins, day in Stone Town, night markets, street food, visit to the spice market, and beach exploration.

Kahama + Egypt Add-on

Many students choose an extended trip adding to their volunteer hours and cultural experiences, which includes volunteering in Kahama and Zanzibar, the island excursion package and the cultural trip to Egypt.

In Kahama students will participate in building the local community center.  As with all of our projects, this is a hands-on, physically demanding and rewarding project.

The extended trip includes the excursion week to Egypt. During the week, we will visit the pyramids, ancient tombs, travel to Luxor and the beach town of Hurghada.
